Munich-ISPO

I know that I am doing things a little bit backwards but this post is about our INCREDIBLE trip to Munich, Germany to see the famous international sports business trade show ISPO.  After a 6 hour train that took off from Milan in the wee hours of the morning, we arrived in Munich and headed straight to the Modern Art Museum.  It was stunning and incredibly inspiring.  Afterwords we headed to a typical German restaurant/beer hall and got the REAL German experience.  The next day we woke up early and headed to ISPO a trade show of high-tech sports fabrics that took place in an old airport.  It was a MASSIVE space filled with hundreds of booths showing off the newest and greatest in textiles, sporting gear, and much much more.  We had appointments with many famous companies and were able to hear first hand about all of their new products.  It was a short but amazing trip:)

Paris Trip!

Almost immediately after finals we went on a class trip to Munich and Paris to experience all of the wonderful cultural experiences both cities have to offer.  I will post about Munich and the textile exhibition next, but for now here is a glimpse into my week of perfection in Paris.   We spent the first couple of days of the trip going on tons of appointments to famous fashion houses including Yves Saint Laurent, Chloe, Comme des Garcons, Hermes, Sonia Rykiel, and many many more.  We were privileged enough to get personal tours and appointments at these couture studios. On top of that, Sydney and I spent our evenings going into just about every museum possible.  Although it was record breaking cold the entire trip, I had a life changing time soaking up all of the French food, art, and culture.

After finals and right before our trip to Paris I cut off all of my hair!

Wonderful view of Le Bastille on the way to our hotel.

Sydney and I in front of the Eiffel Tower!

Beautiful new Hermes Boutique set up in a drained luxury hotel swimming pool.

One of our first appointments in Paris was at the Hermes Boutique with the manager of the boutique.

The famous and stunning Notre Dame.

It was so beautiful filled from floor to ceiling with thousands of books both old and new.

We stopped for a tea break to escape from the bitter cold at the beautiful Mosque.

This is just a very brief touch on all of the Incredibly Amazing things I did while in Paris.  The instant I arrived I fell in love with the beauty of the culture, people, and city!

End of the Semester: Knitwear

First of all let me say I am sorry for not posting in months! This past month has been a marathon that started with finals and ended with loads of travel allowing no time for messing around on my computer.  So, in the next 2 hours I plan to recap everything that has been going on in my busy life for the past month.  First things first here are some pictures from some of my final projects in my 5th semester of knitwear design.

My term garment for my machine knitting class.  skirt, sweater, and scarf all knitted by me on the wonderful brother machines. The skirt is a double jersey knit with stripes in a boucle yarn.  The sweater is a plain knit with drop stitches and a 2:2 rib boarder and the scarf is a plain knit with a jacquard pattern designed by me.

Front view of the knitwear garments.

Just a glimpse of my swatch book filled with 30+ swatches that i knit throughout the semester.

Up next is are a couple of pages from my Knitwear Art portfolio.  The entire portfolio was about 45 pages so here are a couple to give you the idea...

Inspirational images for the collection titled Contoured Terrain.

Texture page with swatches both found on the internet as well as machine knit swatches made by me.

These are the images that inspired the color for the collection.  (Sorry! the colors did not turn out great in this photograph)

The last big project that we had was a Corset for our body contour class. We are having a presentation on those next week so I will post pictures of mine after the presentation:)
